My bachelor’s thesis explores the creation of a believable fantasy arthropod creature using digital 3D sculpting techniques. Entomological research is utilized to support creature design, combining the key characteristics of a praying mantis and a scorpion. My thesis delves into the most important structural features of arthropods, with a deeper emphasis on the praying mantis’ and scorpion’s anatomical structure, life cycle and predatory habits. I outline the steps of the designing and sculpting process of a fantasy arthropod creature, resulting in a highly detailed digital sculpture that represents the intersection of scientific accuracy and creative design.
